Surah At-Talaq Ayat 2-3 provides guidance on the matter of divorce. In simple terms, these verses translate to: “And when they have [nearly] fulfilled their term, either retain them according to acceptable terms or part with them according to acceptable terms. And bring to witness two just witnesses from among you and establish the testimony for [the acceptance of] Allah. That is instructed to whoever should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.”
These verses outline the proper procedure for dealing with divorce. When a waiting period is approaching its end, one can either reconcile with kindness or finalize the divorce amicably. Witnesses are to be present, ensuring the process is just and in accordance with Allah’s guidance. The verses emphasize that those who believe in Allah and the Last Day should adhere to these principles. Additionally, there is reassurance that Allah will provide solutions and sustenance beyond expectation for those who fear Him and put their trust in Him. The overall message is one of adherence to ethical and just practices during a sensitive life event.
