Surah Asy Syams, meaning “The Sun” in English, is the 91st chapter of the Quran. This short yet profound surah consists of 15 verses and reflects on the signs of God’s creation and the choices individuals make in their lives.
The surah begins by swearing oaths by various elements of the natural world, including the sun and its brightness. It then contrasts the righteous soul, which purifies itself and attains success, with the corrupt soul that falls into wrongdoing. The chapter emphasizes the guidance provided by God and the individual’s responsibility to choose between righteousness and disobedience.
Surah Ash-Shams encourages self-reflection and highlights the consequences of one’s actions. It serves as a reminder of the divine wisdom evident in the natural world and urges believers to align their lives with the moral principles outlined in the Quran.
